ABS(American Bureau of Shipping)
The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) is a classification society, with a mission to promote the security of life, property and the natural environment, primarily through the development and verification of standards for the design, construction and operational maintenance of marine-related facilities.ABS also offers certification to specified standards. Whereas classification requires periodic surveys of the classed vessel or offshore unit throughout its life, certification verifies that the item conforms to designated standards at a specified time. Certification can establish compliance with ABS, national, international, industry or other standards.
BV(Bureau Veritas)
Bureau Veritas S.A.is a global company in testing, inspection and certification services. Bureau Veritas offer services and solutions to ensure that their clients' assets, products, infrastructure and processes meet standards and regulations in terms of quality, health and safety, environmental protection and social responsibility.
At the end of the 20th century, Bureau Veritas extended its scope to set up a merchandise inspection system for imported/exported goods before these are shipped and to set up certification of quality management. At the beginning of the 21st century, Bureau Veritas added 2 new business to its activity: consumer products testings and commodities testings.
CCS(China Classification Society)
China Classification Society (CCS; 中國船級社) is a classification society of ships, started in 1956 as a non-profit making body in the People's Republic of China to perform classification survey, certification survey and notarial survey of ships including offshore installations, containers and related industrial products both at home and abroad. CCS also conduct statutory work on behalf of the Chinese Government and other flag administrations.
CCS joined the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) as a full member in May 1988.
DNV(Det Norske Veritas)
Stiftelsen Det Norske Veritas (DNV) is a classification society organized as a foundation, with the objective of "Safeguarding life, property, and the environment". The organization's history goes back to 1864, when the foundation was established in Norway to inspect and evaluate the technical condition of Norwegian merchant vessels.
The foundation splits its operation into 3 corporations
DNV Maritime and Oil & Gas Classification, verification, risk-management and technical counselling to Maritime and Oil/Gas companies globally.
DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability Counselling, testing and certification services to the global energy sector, including: Renewable energy, emissions, energy efficiency, power production, transfer, and distribution.
DNV Business Assurance Certification, assessment, training/education that supports customers products, processes and organisation globally over a wide spectrum of fields
It also has a subsidiary; DNV Software developing software in ship design, engineering, risk, construction and various calculation programs to the maritime, energy and process sector. Additionally they make the program EasyRisk Manager
LR (Lloyd’s Register of Shipping)
The Lloyd's Register Group is a maritime classification society and independent risk management organisation providing risk assessment and mitigation services and management systems certification. Historically, as Lloyd's Register of Shipping, it was a specifically maritime organisation. During the late 20th century, it diversified into other industries including oil and gas,process industries, nuclear, and rail. Through its 100% subsidiary Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance Ltd (LRQA), it is also a major vendor of management system quality certification to ISO9001, ISO14001 and OSHAS18001. Lloyd's Register is unaffiliated with Lloyd's of London.
CRS (Croatian Register of Shipping)
Croatian Register of Shipping (Croatian: Hrvatski registar brodova), also known as CRS, is an independent classification society established in 1949. It is a non-profit organisation working on the marine market, developing technical rules and supervising their implementation, managing risk and performing surveys on ships. The Society's head office is in Split.
Croatian Register of Shipping is the member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) since May 2011.
The register is officially recognized by the Malta Maritime Authority.
IRS (Indian Register of Shipping)
Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) is an elite, internationally recognized, independent ship classification society, founded in India in 1975. It is a Non-Profit organisation, Public undertaking and a member of the prestigious 13 member International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). It was inducted into IACS along with Croatian Register of Shipping (CRS) and Polish Register of Shipping (PRS)
IRS provides professionally competent, completely independent and highly efficient third party technical inspection and certification services for all types of ships, marine craft and structures. These services have also been expanded to cover a range of offshore and industrial projects.
The services are designed to meet ISO 9001 specifications (the International Standard on Quality Management Systems), and thereby help achieve high levels of quality and reliability, while maintaining project schedules and integrity. Further, they are proven to be cost-effective and meet timelines efficiently.
ISPS(International Ship and Port Facility Security Code)
The International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code is an amendment to the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention (1974/1988) on minimum security arrangements for ships, ports and government agencies. Having come into force in 2004, it prescribes responsibilities to governments, shipping companies, shipboard personnel, and port/facility personnel to "detect security threats and take preventative measures against security incidents affecting ships or port facilities used in international trade."

KR(Korean Register of Shipping)
The Korean Register of Shipping (KR) is a classification society founded in South Korea offering verification and certification services for ships and marine structures in terms of design, construction and maintenance. Founded in 1960, the society employs 889 people. Its headquarters in Busan, Korea and it has 50 offices worldwide.
GL( Germanischer Lloyd)
The Germanischer Lloyd SE is a classification society based in the city of Hamburg, Germany. As a technical supervisory organization Germanischer Lloyd conducts safety surveys on more than 7,000 ships with over 100 Mio GT. Its technical and engineering services also include the mitigation of risks and assurance of technical compliance for oil, gas and industrial installations as well as wind energy parks.
ClassNK( Nippon Kaiji Kyokai)
The Germanischer Lloyd SE is a classification society based in the city of Hamburg, Germany. As a technical supervisory organization Germanischer Lloyd conducts safety surveys on more than 7,000 ships with over 100 Mio GT. Its technical and engineering services also include the mitigation of risks and assurance of technical compliance for oil, gas and industrial installations as well as wind energy parks.
PRS(Polish Register of Shipping)
Polish Register of Shipping, (in Polish: Polski Rejestr Statków S.A.), also known as PRS, is an independent classification society established in 1936. It is a non-profit organisation working on the marine market, developing technical rules and supervising their implementation, managing risk and performing surveys on ships. PRS has been authorized by a number of State Maritime Administrations to act on their behalf. PRS is the only classification societies which has its own team of scuba divers surveyors performing underwater inspections. The Society's head office is placed in Gdańsk, Poland.
RINA(Registro Italiano Navale)
RINA was founded in Genoa in 1861 under the name REGISTRO ITALIANO NAVALE, by the "Associazione della Mutua Assicurazione Marittima" (Mutual Marine Insurance Association) [established in Genoa in 1857 by ship managers and shipowners (or "ship shareholders"), to cover risks related to loss and/or damage of the hull and rigging of sailing ships], to meet the needs of Italian maritime operators, as had already occurred in Great Britain and France. Since its foundation, Registro Italiano Navale has been an instrument of support for economic development in the areas where it operates. Over 150 years later, the role of RINA has not changed but it has expanded to meet the needs of a constantly evolving international economy.
RS(Russian Maritime Register of Shipping)
The activities of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) are aimed at providing the safety of navigation, safety of life at sea, security of ships, safe carriage of cargo, environmental safety of ships, prevention of pollution from ships, performance of authorisations issued by Administrations and customers.
RS develops and continually improves the RS rules and guidelines in compliance with requirements of the international standards to ensure the safety at sea and pollution prevention.
The RS task is both to maintain its own quality management system at the highest possible level and to promote also implementation of high technical standards in design of ships, shipbuilding and shipping industry using its unique experience in ensuring maritime safety.
IACS( International Association of Classification Societies)
The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) is a technically based organization consisting of thirteen marine classification societies headquartered in London.
Marine classification is a system for promoting the safety of life, property and the environment primarily through the establishment and verification of compliance with technical and engineering standards for the design, construction and life-cycle maintenance of ships, offshore units and other marine-related facilities. These standards are contained in rules established by each Society. IACS provides a forum within which the member societies can discuss, research and adopt technical criteria that enhance maritime safety. of high technical standards in design of ships, shipbuilding and shipping industry using its unique experience in ensuring maritime safety.
